Town of Yorktown meeting notice to the electors to vote for or against regarding to the will of the late Mrs. Catherine M. Dresser who died in May 1916, leaving to the town of Yorktown a property of 42 ares of land for the establishment and maintenance of a free public library to be known as "John C. Hart Memorial Library".

(The voters of the town on November 4, 1919, by a vote of 227 for and 66 against, took formal action, accepting the gift establishing the library and electing trustees. The library will serve a population membering about 3000. Third. All the rest residue and remainder of my property of whatsoever kind of nature, I give, devise and be same in trust, nevertheless to invest and re-invest the same, and pay over the income therefrom to my husband, George D. Dresser, in semi-annual payments during his lifetime; and on his death I give, devise and bequeath the principal of said fund, together with any and all real estate which may be held by my trustees at the time of his death to the the Town of Yorktown, in the County of Westchester and State of New York, or the policital body which may succeed the same, to be used for the establishment of a library near the Village of Shrub Oak to be known as the " John C. Hart Memorial Library," the said Town, to expend whatever may be necessary out of principal for the construction and erection of a proper building, if necessary, and the balance of the principal to be held as a fund, the income from which shall be expended for the purposes, uses and maintenance of said library. Should my trustees at the time of the death of my husband, hold the house now owned by me at Sbrub Oak, it Is my desire, although not my intention, to hereby bind the Town of Yorktown, or its successors, that the said house be used, if possible, as the library building, and If not possible, that the new library building be located on the land owned by me, or a portion thereof if so owned at the time of my death.

NOTICE OF TOWN MEETING

To the Electors of the Town of Yorktown In the County of Westchester:

WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Yorktown, In the County of Westchester, State of New York, did on the 14th day of October, 1919, duly adopt the following resolution:

"Whereas under the provisions of the woll of Catherine M. Dresser, deceased, the Town of Yorktown has become the beneficiary of a certain tract of land consisthig of about forty acreir, house and other buildings, situated on the County Road No.1309 at Shrub Qak; And Whereas, in accordance with certain stipulations and provisions of said Will of Catherina M. Dresser pertaining to the establishment and maintenace of a free public library to be known as the "John C. Hart Memorial Library";

And Whereas, under a resolution adopted by the Town Board at a meeting held Sept. 5, 1916, the Town Board accepted this property under the provisions of the will;

Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the question of establishing a free public library for the Town of Yorktown to be known as the "John C. Hart Memorial Library" be submitted to the qualified electors of the Town of Yorktown at the biennial town meeting to be held on the 4th day of November, 1919; 

And be It Further Resolved, that Charles W. Carpenter, Jonathan B. Currey, Francis B. Chedsey, Charlotte Martens, James C. Fowler and George W. Salter be named as a Board of Trustees of such free public library In accordance with Section 1123 of the Education Law."

NOW, THERIDFOR'E, NOTICE is hereby given pursuant to Section 48 of the Town Law that the following propositions will be submlted to the qualified electors of the Town of Yorktown at a Town Meetlng for said Town to be held in the several polling places in said Town on the 4th day of November, 1919. 

FIRST RESOLUTION

RESOLVED, that a free public library to be known as the "John C. Hart Memorial Library" be established by the Town of Yurktown. 

SECOND RESOLUTION

RESOLVED, that Charles W. Carpenter, Jonathan B.'Currey, Francis B. Chedsey, Charlotte Martens, James C. Fowler and George W. Salter be elected Trustees of the John C. Hart Memorial Library In accordance with Section - 1123 of the Educational Law.
