Text

On Sunday, Sept. 29th, a tour of houses of special interest in and around Yorktown will be held from 1 :00-5:00 p.m. An annual event for the Yorktown Historical Society, this year's tour is co-sponsored by the Friends of Hart Library, and is opened to the public at large for the first time. Those wishing to take the self-directed tour purchase a tour guide and maps and visit the houses independently. The actual houses to be visited are a closely guarded secret to protect their owners privacy until the day of the tour. Among the seven chosen for the 1996 tour are houses that date to the first half of the 18th century and feature original construction, inside and out, including hand-hewn beams and operating open hearth fireplaces.

The cost for the tour is $10 for members of either organization; $12 for non-members who purchase their tickets on Sept. 29th; and $11 for non-members who purchase them in advance by Sept. 15th. Tickets will be available at the Railroad Station in Railroad Park on Sept. 29th from 12:30 p.m. Advance sale tickets may be had by calling Phillis Jakubowski of the Yorktown Historical Society (962-5854) or Mary Connelly of the Friends of Hart Library (962-0843).
