More than 100 Entries in Shrub Oak Art Exhibit
The Second Annual art exhibit in the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak, drew more than one hundred entries, in pictures, sculpture and wood carving.
The exhibit incluedes paintings in every style and media, including a scene of a lighthouse on the coast of Maine, designed and worked into a hooked rug by Mrs. Maurice Sellers of Shrub Oak.
Among the exhibitions were: Robert Allentuck-Portrait of an Old Man, and "Pidgeon Cove." Robert Gardner-an oil of geometric figures and a Mexican scene in water color. Mrs. Lillian Levine-2 oils. Mrs. David Lipson-Portrait of a young girl. Mrs. Victor Young-"Whatnot." in oil, and a pastel, "Cornbread."
Miss Trudy Seligman - "Still Life" and "Flowers," in oils. Mrs. Daniel Seldin - a snow scene, in oil, and a country lane in water color. Ethel Anderson - carved figure of a cat. Gilbert Shanus - two oils. still life and flowers. Mrs. Hannah Leyden - "Peekskill at Dusk" and "Autumn." Stanley Leyden - two oils.
Brooks Campbell - 'Self Portrait" and "Venus." Miss Gertrude Dangler - "After the Storm." John Burke - "Fear at Night." Mrs. Ruth Wolkowitz - a mohogany scupture. Mrs, Mildred Bach - water color secnes. Miss Christin Siebert - a self portrait in oils. Samuel Louis Pullman - two water colors. Mrs. Myrtle Baer - a terra cotta sculpture of a "Mother and Child." and a water scene in oil. Mrs. Barbara Capitman - two portriats in oil.
Christopher Born - pencil sketches. Miss Margaret Harvey - "Portrait" and "Ducks" in oil. Mrs. Slema Fogelman - "The Kitchen" in oil. August Schnackenberg - "The Heather" and "Sailboats" in oil. Mrs. Lillian Herst -"Still Life" and 'Winter Scene" in oil. mrs. Herman Herst Jr. - "Our Barn" and "Pocono Mountain Scene" in oil. Miss Dorothy Marst -"Poppies" and 'We're ready" in oil. Miss Elizabeth Dickson - "Side Street" and "Cafe Hag" in oil; Mrs. Conrad Martens - "The Retreat" and "Palms" in oil. Joseph Roset - "Ruth" and "Pasture."
David Sperber - two water colors, 'Autumn Twilight" and "Arizona Cave." Mrs. Anna Pfeiffer - "Shady Brook" and "Autumn Flowers" in oils. David Ellis - two pastels. "An Interior" and "Lake Osceola in the Fall." Huga Gnam Jr.-"Voodoo" and "Swan Lake," in oil. Bogdan S. Wasiel-Gothic Madonna carved in ancient wood. Stacia Nowike-"Street Scene in Moscow," in oil.
Reception Opens Art Exhibit at Shrub Oak
The John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak was filled to capacity Saturday evening at the reception and opening of the second annnual art exhibit. Almost 100 visitors attended.
Mrs. Arthur C. Lee, chairman of the Library Board welcomed the guests and introduced Horace Mcllhenney, former resident of Shrub Oak, now living in the Rahway, N.J., who presented the library with a large etching of a Shrub Oak water scene done by his father many years ago.
Miss Marjorie McKee, of Mahopac, director of the Junior Workshop in the White Plains County Center, spoke to the group on the difference between an amateur and a professional artist. "Art gives you the opportunity to explore," she said. "Do the thing you like to do, develop your skills for what you want to do, and you might even develop new skills that have never been used before."
