SHRUB OAK - Miss A. Marie Dohetty of Peekskill, chairman of the Art Department of Peekskill's school system, has entered two water colors in the John c. Hart Memorial Library exhibit.

A graduate of Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's degree; Miss Doherty studied with Bernard K1ovis of the Al't students' League, John Wheat at Silvermine Conn., and with Herbert Olsen of Westport.

A popular lecturer on flower arrangemeht to local garden clubs, Miss Doherty also paints flower arrangement using the "wet" method, and does landscapes in "dry" water color. She spent last summer traveling through France, Italy, Holland, Belgium, England, Germany and Switzerland, making small sketches as she went, which she has since enlarged.

On August 18, Miss Doherty leaves for Kennebunkport, Maine, to paint with Ed Mayo, one of New England's best known water colorists.

Phyllis Sellers of Shrub Oak, has entered two pairs of bookends in modelled clay, figures of dogs and a Quaker lady and gentleman. Mrs. Sellers, a gtaduate of Swathmore, studied at the National Academy Of Design in New York, and studied a year in clay modeling at Columbia Teachers College. She was a member ·of Vincent Krataman's Adult Education art class at l,akeland High School last winter.

Selma Fagelman, who has been exhibiting in the Shrub Oak show for the past three seasons, has entered two studies in oils. She is a student Of Mrs, Lee Lipp and a part time student at the Brooklyn Museum of Art; in the winter time.

Joseph Rciset of Putnam Valley, who has studied under Mr. Campell has entered a charcoal sketch of "Roberta", and a pastel "Gwendolyn". Mr. Rose who has been exhibiting at Shrub Oak for four years, studied at the betroit school of Fine Arts. He is a decoratot by profession.

Eva Antin, Wife of Dr. Benjamin Antin of Yorktown Heights is a newcomer to the area who has been painting for the past 15 years and is now a student or Mrs. Lipp's. She has entered two landscapes in oil.

Henry Trtiguba and his son, Marvin, of the Maple Hill Estates in Putnam Valley, have entered two interesting ceramic pieces. Mr. Triguba, who is associated with Wright Aeronautics, has taken to ceremics as s hobby. His son is a fine art student at Alfred University, studying ceramic engineering and is also a sculptor. In 1950 he won a scholarship to the Workshop School of Art in New York, and during his military service, applied his knowledge of art to topographical work for the army. He has entered ".Birds bamboo in a bowl."

Self taught Artist
Miss Ann Koref, 16-year-old Yorktown High school student,  is a self-taught artiat who hope some day to be a medical technician. Her entry, "Edward . V1 as the Prince of Wales'', is a copy of a famous painting and was done ' for a school project on the Renaissance Period.'

Chistopher Born of Indian Hill, has entered the only graphic in the exhibition, entitled "Our Home". A self-taught amateur, he is planning to go into oils.

Pennerton West of Shrub Oak, a prominent artist of the modern school who has had several New York showings of her work, has entered one woodcut, "Pisces'', and a wash drawing "Hear of a Boy".

Mildred Margles of Lake Mohegan, whose work has been very well received both in New York and in the Putnam Valley shows, has entered "The Highway" in oils, and a ceramic "Boy".

Lee Lipp of Yorktown, who has conducted a swmmer art class in Shrub Oak Park, for the past six years, is exhibiting a portrait of "Deena", her grai1dchild and a landscape "AmaWalk", both done in oils. Mrs. Lipp insists all people have creative ability, which they rarely get an opportunity to use. She studied at the Art Students League and at Cooper Union on a scholarship.
