The terrorist attacks were a year ago, but it was no until Aug 19 that the New York City medical examiner's office released the first official list of the dead. It put the dead from the attacks at 107 from Westchester County, and 5 from Putnam.
By comparing a Sept. 6 revision of the medical examiner's list, which included only names, with databases compiled by The Times, The Associated Press and other sources, it was possible to sort victims according to their place of residence. The list for Westchester and Putnam appears here.
The list is still subject to revision. It is also to note that the list, based on last place of residence, does not account for the victims who had moved away from the suburbs without severing their roots there. For example, the Sept. 11 dead include scores of young people, raised in the suburbs, who after graduating from college oved to New York City and took jobs in financial services, but remain close to their suburban families and friends.
Accounting to this sorting, Yonkers had the most victims, with 12; Scarsdale lost 7. The most common employer was Canon Fitzgerald, which lost 31 people. Fifteen worked for the New York Fire Department.
