Charles W. Carpenter, well known in Peekskill, died suddenly at his home at Shrub Oak, Tuesday night. he had been in usual ehalth and death was caused by an affection of the heart.
Mr. Carpenter was born at Shrub Oak, September 8, 1854, the son of John W. Carpenter, proprietor of Sunnyside farm, and of the Carpenter House at Lake Mahopac, and his wife, Eliza Horton. He was born in the same house in which his father was born.
The deceased followed in his father's footsteps and became one of the best known agriculturists of this county.
He bred many fine horses and built a race track on his property, on which many races were run in the days before automobiles.
Mr. Carpenter was one of the trustees of the John C. Hart Memorial Library at Shrub Oak, and a member of the Methodist church.
His wife, who was Miss Viola Hart, survives him, also one sister, Miss Jennie Carpenter, of Peekskill.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Friday, afternoon, at the Shrub Oak M. E. church and the interment was in the cemetery adjoining.
