Charles Wilson Carpenter, wealthy retired farmer, dropped dead at his home on the State road near Shrub Oak last night. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Carpenter was in exceedingly fine spirits yesterday. He was in Peekskill in the morning shopping and was in the best of health.
Last night at 10 o'clock he was found lying on the floor of the butler's pantry. Dr. J. Russell Foshay was called but the man had expired before the arrival of the physician. Coroner Fred A. Snowden was notified and found that Mr. Carpenter had suffered a stroke and apoplexy and died from a cerebral hemorrhage.
Th deceased, who was in his 71st year was born at Shrub Oak, the son of John W. and Eliza Horton Carpenter. His father and grandfather were also born there. He ran for years "Sunnyside Farm" which still retains the name. He also operated Carpenter's race track at Shrub Oak.
He married Viola Hart, who survives him. They had no children.
Funeral services will be held from the Shrub Oak M. E. Church and Friday, June 26, at 2 P. M. Interment at Shrub Oak Cemetery.
